VERONIQUE BIGO’S BIOGRAPHY
In 1970, after studying at the Beaux-Arts in Lille, Véronique Bigo decided to move to Rome where she settled until 1986. It was there that the artist laid the foundations of her painting: the palette was black - a few rare traces of pink, green or yellow sometimes overlap - and the canvas in raw linen. Broadly speaking, her work embraces the path of figurative art, favoring the object whatever it is according to the series. Because these are the themes that predominate in Véronique Bigo's painting and that provide inspiration for the subjects painted. With a sure and determined brushstroke, she gives shape to the object, then infusing it with particularly contrasting shadow play using tiny spots that give it convincing materiality. The extremely large formats deeply unsettle the relationship between the observer’s eye and the canvas: a 3-meters-high cup, for example, imposes a new perspective and implies an unprecedented consideration of the object and its experience.
